Setting up a firewall on ubuntu

When updating my repositories in Ubuntu I just found out that I don’t have any firewall installed in my desktop. I forgot about this one. Well, we all know that Linux Distros have an impenetrable virus protection (even it doesn’t have any). But when surfing the net viruses aren’t the only one to be dealt with. There are tendencies that hackers will hack your system. I really don’t know if Ubuntu is also hacker free, the only thing I know that this is virus free. LoL. Now, I just installed firestarter (I like firestarter than the others). Firestarter is one of Ubuntu’s firewall software that can be installed. Not all know about this but if you want to you can Google it as “firewall for ubuntu” or your preferred keywords. But for me I did a specific code like this using the terminal:

sudo apt-get install firestarter

You can also use an alternative if you prefer using a GUI then you can access it by going to the menus Applications > Add/Remove… and then type in the search box firestarter (case-insensitive). This should do the trick.

After installation you can access it by going to the menus Applications > Internet > Firestarter then you can just leave it be. If you prefer to minimize it on tray icon (I did this too) just click Preferences and check the “Minimize to tray on window close”. Then just click the Firewall > Start Firewall.

If you found a red circle in the icons tray with a thunder-like image on it then your firewall is working correctly.
