How to Avoid Duplicate Content
Duplicate Content occurs when two or more of different web pages contain the same content. It may occur in your own websites or in many different websites. All of the contents in different web pages can be considered duplicate even if they are not 100% alike. Although there is no such thing as a general duplicate content penalty, search engines will give you a really difficult times to raise your page rankings.
Search Engines only want to post one version of that content that’s why they are filtering every web pages who is a duplicate.
Search Engines have their own method by comparing the web pages. When they found a web page, they will compare it to other web pages to determine if it is a duplicate or not. Web pages that are hosted in known spam sites will be automatically removed. The remaining will be compared through the quality and number of inbound links and the web page with the best inbound links will be chosen and will be displayed in the SERPs.
How to Avoid Duplicate Content
- If you offer different views (e.g. themes, WAP site for mobile) make sure to add a Meta tag with the noindex attribute to your duplicate content versions so that search engines will not pick the wrong one.
- If you have a new blog and don’t want to lose traffic from your old blog, you may use Redirection from Blogger to WordPress if you want your reader to be automatically redirected if you are using Blogger as your blogging platform.
- If you syndicate your web page for third party websites, make sure to add a backlink to the original content so the search engines will know from which web page the original content comes.
- If you found a web page that has the same content with your own then try to contact the webmaster of the site and make sure to let them know that it is against the law.
Duplicate Content can cause you problems with search engine rankings even if you own and you are the original writer of the content. Also, make sure to optimize your page so search engines can give your web page the best possible ranking in SERPs.

thanks.. :) well, you may want to just put a redirection code from those blog instead of deleting them. specially when there are already visitors on your other blogs. as long as you will put a noindex attribute in your blogs, you will not be penalized for the duplicate content.

i must visit your site everyday. :) it’s like coffee to me in the morning..anyway, i can relate to this again..i have tried to create different blogs in an attempt organize topics in my first blog. so i had to import content from my main blog but didn’t remove the original posts after importing. bingo. duplicate. another thing, i don’t get to update each and every blog as often as i want to..i’m mulling over deleting those and just concentrate on my main blog and just reorganize, re-categorize and re-tag/re-label all posts as appropriate. what do you think angelo? :)
